Every 30 days, we mark where we are with a picture and a look back at what we've done. We spent Day 150 in Thailand, Day 120 in Vietnam (Can Tho), Day 90 in Vietnam (Hanoi), Day 60 in China, Day 30 in Russia, and Day 1 in Belgium. Here's our Day 180 review!
Picture Taken: In Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Behind us is Colombo Town Hall (whose architecture reminded us of the US Capitol Building) and a large golden statue of Buddha. It's considered disrespectful to pose for photos with your back to Buddha's face, so we have Buddha's back behind us, instead.
What is one of your favorite things that we did in the past 30 days?
Bob: White water rafting outside Ipoh.
Meghan: Surprising the boys and being surprised myself by my family's visit over Christmas.
Emmett: Seeing our family over Christmas!
Colin: Seeing our family over Christmas!
What is something you haven't liked?
Bob: The continuous price haggling game with tuk-tuk drivers.
Meghan: Colombo. It was the least interesting capital city I think I've ever visited.
Emmett: The heat.
Colin: The humidity.
What is something you've learned?
Bob: The process by which tea is made.
Meghan: I have learned to relax a bit in regards to eating food from street vendors. We had a fantastic time trying all kinds of things in the streets of Georgetown. I realized that, earlier in the trip, we'd passed up some similar opportunities because we were (overly) concerned about hygiene, food prep, etc. By relaxing a bit, we've made some really fun "food memories", and we've not had any major stomach issues as a result.
Emmett: How chocolate is made.
Colin: The bridge between the two Petronas Towers can move so that they don't pull on each other.
What is something you are looking forward to in the next 30 days?
Bob: The safaris in Sri Lanka's national parks.
Meghan: We've heard nothing but good things about Sri Lanka, so I'm excited to get out of Colombo and experience the rest of the country.
Emmett: Going to Sunway Lagoon (a theme park in Malaysia)!
Colin: Seeing wild animals in Sri Lanka.
