Emmett turns 11 in Adelaide!

After driving the Great Ocean Road, we had a few down days in Adelaide before we were scheduled to begin our camper trip in Australia's Outback.  One of those mornings, I met up with a college friend/roommate, Jillian, who now lives in Adelaide with her husband, Duncan, and their adorable daughter.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo, but it was great to catch up after 15 years!

While I did that, Bob took the boys to the Central Market and for a walk through Adelaide's CBD.

They found an office of this well-named company....

They passed a beautiful Adelaide church...

And they found a nice park to play in.

That night, Bob and I decorated our AirBnB apartment for Emmett's 11th birthday, which was the next day.

Emmett was surprised to wake up to an avalanche of balloons, and we had a birthday breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes and gave him silly cards.

Since Emmett was about 2, we've talked about this "all around the world trip" that he would start when he was 10.  Back then, it was really hard to imagine our baby boy as a pre-teen.  Now he's well into the trip (almost at the end, actually) and has turned 11.......and we are so proud of the smart, kind, curious young man that he's become.

After breakfast we headed to Mega Adventure Park, where we spent a couple of hours doing a ropes-based course.  Emmett had picked this activity out for his birthday, and it was a lot of fun for us all.

We climbed, swung, and walked across all kinds of obstacles high above the ground.

In addition to some of the same types of obstacles that the boys had done w-aaaa-y back in Berlin (the first stop of the trip), there were a few new ones that were pretty cool.

After completing the first level of obstacles, we climbed higher to even more challenging ones.

When it was time to finish, the way down was via a ParaJump.  Basically, they attached our harness to a pulley and then we stepped off a platform and fell (controlled) all the way down to the ground.  You can see the step-off platform in this photo.....it's pretty high up.

Bob went first, so we don't have any pictures of him on the ParaJump, but he was able to document the rest of us doing it.

Walking off that platform was a bit challenging......there was a slightly-terrifying moment between my feet supporting me and the harness catching my weight when I may have let out a scream (or two).

We ended Emmett's birthday with a BBQ at Jillian's house, where Bob and the boys got to meet Duncan and their daughter as well.  It was a really nice evening but, again, I forgot to get a photo!  The next day, we did a few errands in the CBD and prepared for the next phase of our Australian adventures.......road tripping in a camper through the Australian Outback!
