From Hoi An we picked up the train in Da Nang and, about 10
hours later, arrived in Nha Trang. Nha
Trang is known as the “beach capital” of Vietnam, and we thought it would be a
good place for a longer stay. We booked
a week in an AirBnB apartment that had a great view of the shoreline and easy
access to the beach.
Our week in Nha Trang passed quickly and the days were relaxed. We spent a lot of time playing
in the water...the current was really strong and the water got very deep very quickly, so the boys wore life jackets, just to be safe.
…we'd walk down to a beachside brewery to eat and enjoy a swim in their pool (note: a brewery on
the beach with a pool is a brilliant combination)…..
….we'd enjoy fresh coconuts and beautiful views of the
scenic coastline….
….and we'd eat dinner, go to bed, and wake up and do it
again the next day!
On October 20th (my 37th birthday), we
spent the day at Vinpearl Land, an amusement/water park on an island about 3 km
off the shore of Nha Trang. To get
there, we took the “world’s longest oversea cable car”. It was fun until we stopped right in the middle and the car started bouncing up and down. There’s
something about bouncing above the ocean in a cable car that turns the discussion from “Wow, this is a beautiful view!” to “Would this thing float if we fall off
the cable?”.
Vinpearl Land was a great place to spend a day. First we rode amusement park rides (can you take a guess at which balloon car my 2 boys are in?)...
...and then we spent the rest of the day playing in the water park area.
...and then we spent the rest of the day playing in the water park area.
One of our favorite parts was a section of the wave pool
where the water was funneled between two concrete walls. Inside, everyone got tossed around (often as high as the large rocks on top of
the walls). It was so fun!
On our last day at the beach, the boys surprised me with
cake for my birthday, since the options at Vinpearl Land had been pretty
limited. It was delicious and worth the wait.
